GPSSA pension contributions, for UAE nationals.
UAE nationals (not expatriates) contribute to a pension scheme — GPSSA everywhere except Abu Dhabi, which runs its own Abu Dhabi Pension Fund. For anyone registered on or after 31 October 2023, the total is 26% of pensionable salary: 11% from the employee and 15% from the employer, with the government covering 2.5% (nested inside the employer's share) for salaries under AED 20,000.
Last verified 26 October 2026. research/uae/gpssa.md (u.ae; Federal Decree-Law No. 57 of 2023).
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Total contribution | 26% of pensionable salary |
| Employee share | 11% |
| Employer share | 15% (of which the government covers 2.5% for salaries under AED 20,000 — the employer nets 12.5% at those salary bands, not an extra 2.5% on top) |
| Maximum pensionable salary | AED 70,000/month (private sector); AED 100,000/month (government sector) |
| Minimum pensionable salary | AED 3,000/month |
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Total contribution | 20% of pensionable salary |
| Employee / employer / government | 5% / 12.5% / 2.5% (the 2.5% nested inside the employer's share, same pattern as the new scheme) |
Worth knowing
- The new-scheme figures are confirmed directly from u.ae with the exact quoted percentages. The old-scheme split is corroborated by two independent media sources, not yet read from GPSSA's own primary legal text — treated as CORROBORATED, one step below VERIFIED, until that's closed.
- Expatriates are not covered by GPSSA at all — they get end-of-service gratuity instead (see the gratuity page).
